FMG has developed and “engineered” a wind turbine for Windsave allowing householders to benefit from GREEN ENERGY.
From its concept to market FMG has been a key part in the development of the Windsave Wind Turbine. In keeping with the design brief where cost and indeed payback were paramount, FMG has ensured that each turbine comprises less than 10 main parts, each being “engineered” across the group companies.
David Gordon C.E.O. of Windsave had recognised that global warming and rising energy costs were going to be a problem and felt that everyone had to play their part if we are going to succeed in reducing co2 emissions and electricity costs.
Back in 2002 he came up with the concept of producing a wind turbine that would be suitable for every householder, not being an expert in designing or manufacturing he wanted to pick a partner with the expertise to work in conjunction with his engineers. He decided to choose FMG after visiting its factories, which could offer him the multi-skills this project demanded.
- A proactive engineering department that could work with designers and at the same time ensure that parts could be made economically
- A company that could quickly produce prototypes to prove the concept
- A company that could supply all the parts he needed and had an excellent supply chain already in place
Deans Engineering produced the precision machined parts
LPE manufactured the cable harnessing and the fabricated parts.
FST carried out the surface finishing.
The manufactured parts were then assembled and kitted enabling delivery direct to Windsave customers.
David Gordon sums up the success of the partnership when he said
“Without FMG this project would never have got off the ground, the input of engineering and the ability to control everything has made this product the success it is today.”
Windsave are presently buying 500 units per week, and planning to take that up to 1,000 by the end of 2007 and predicting 2,000 per week in 2008.
FMG have set up a dedicated production line to ensure volume demands are satisfied.
The wind generators can be bought in B&Q stores throughout the UK as well as many other outlets
